# Which industries can use SopWow to document their work?

> **Quick answer:** Any industry whose back-office work happens in a browser tab. SopWow was built first for insurance agencies and has dedicated pages for ten industries, from medical offices and accounting firms to freight, staffing, and nonprofits. The one requirement is the browser: SopWow records work in Chrome or Edge. It does not capture desktop applications, remote desktop or Citrix sessions, field work, or paper steps.

SopWow does not care what your office sells. It cares where the work happens. If the task runs in a web-based system, SopWow can record one real run of it and write the procedure.

## What is the one requirement?

The work has to happen in a browser tab. SopWow is a browser extension for Chrome and Edge, on Windows and Mac. A person does the task the normal way, with the recorder running, and SopWow writes the SOP from that run. The full loop is on [how SopWow turns a recording into an SOP](https://sopwow.com/how-it-works).

Most back offices now fit. The systems that run them are web apps: agency management systems, practice management systems, billing portals, CRMs, carrier and payer portals, transportation management systems, applicant tracking systems, donor databases, and accounting software.

## What is out of scope?

Be clear about this before you record anything:

- **Desktop applications.** Software installed on the computer, rather than opened in a browser tab, is not captured.
- **Remote desktop and Citrix sessions.** A browser tab that shows a remote desktop is a picture of another computer, so SopWow cannot see the fields and buttons inside it.
- **Field work.** Work on a job site, in a truck, or in a warehouse is not browser work.
- **Paper and phone steps.** Signing a form or calling a carrier happens off screen.

Steps outside the browser can still go into the SOP. Add them by hand during review, before you approve it.

## Which industries have their own pages?

Each industry page covers the workflows that office tends to document first, the decisions inside them, and the limits that matter for that industry.

1. **[Insurance agencies](https://sopwow.com/industries/insurance-agencies).** Certificates of insurance, endorsements, renewals, claims intake, and AMS migration. The anchor industry, and where SopWow is deepest.
2. **[Medical and dental offices](https://sopwow.com/industries/healthcare).** Front desk, scheduling, eligibility checks, and billing follow-up, with the data-handling limits stated first.
3. **[Accounting and bookkeeping firms](https://sopwow.com/industries/accounting-bookkeeping).** Client onboarding, month-end close, and payroll steps, written before busy season.
4. **[Law firms](https://sopwow.com/industries/legal).** Intake, conflict checks, e-filing, and billing in browser-based practice tools.
5. **[Real estate and property management](https://sopwow.com/industries/real-estate).** Listing setup, transaction coordination, tenant onboarding, and maintenance requests.
6. **[Trucking and freight](https://sopwow.com/industries/trucking-freight).** Load entry, carrier setup, billing, and filings across your TMS and carrier and shipper portals.
7. **[Construction and home services](https://sopwow.com/industries/construction-home-services).** Estimating, scheduling, permitting, and invoicing: the office side, not the field.
8. **[Staffing and recruiting](https://sopwow.com/industries/staffing).** Candidate intake, client onboarding, timesheets, and payroll handoffs in the ATS and client portals.
9. **[Nonprofits](https://sopwow.com/industries/nonprofits).** Donor entry, grant reporting, volunteer onboarding, and finance tasks that must survive staff turnover.
10. **[Financial services](https://sopwow.com/industries/financial-services).** Account opening, loan processing, and client service for advisory, lending, and credit union teams, with the compliance boundary stated plainly.

If your industry is not on this list, it may still fit. The workflows that matter most tend to look alike across offices; see [the workflow catalog](https://sopwow.com/use-cases) for the ones worth documenting first.

## Which other back offices is SopWow built for?

Built for back offices in the following industries, wherever the office work runs in a browser. This is a list of fit, not a list of customers.

- **Insurance and risk:** property and casualty, benefits administration, claims management, insurance adjusting.
- **Finance and professional services:** tax preparation, payroll services, mortgage and lending, banking and credit unions, wealth management, collections, title and escrow.
- **Healthcare administration:** medical billing, veterinary practices, home health offices.
- **Transportation and logistics:** freight brokerage, logistics and 3PL, courier and delivery, moving and storage.
- **Real estate and building:** HOA management, engineering and architecture firms.
- **Field and trade services (office side only):** HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing and restoration, pest control, landscaping, janitorial, security services, waste and environmental services.
- **Commerce and industry:** wholesale distribution, auto dealerships, e-commerce, retail, franchising, and manufacturing order entry and purchasing (not the shop floor).
- **Hospitality and lifestyle:** multi-location restaurant groups, hotels, travel agencies, event management, fitness and wellness, salons and spas.
- **Agencies and tech services:** marketing agencies, IT services and managed service providers, software companies.
- **Community and public sector:** education administration, membership associations, churches and ministries, government service offices.

In every one of these, SopWow documents the office work that runs through web-based systems. It does not capture the trade itself.

## How can you tell if your workflow is a fit?

Ask four questions about the task you want documented:

1. **Does it happen in a browser tab from start to finish,** or close to it? If one or two steps are a phone call or a signature, it still fits; add those steps in review.
2. **Does it repeat?** A task done weekly or monthly earns its SOP back. A one-off project usually does not need one.
3. **Does it involve decisions?** Tasks with choices (which option, which carrier, when to escalate) get the most from SopWow, because it asks about the branch points a recording cannot explain.
4. **Is the knowledge concentrated?** If only one or two people can do it today, it is a strong first candidate.

If the answer to the first question is no, SopWow is the wrong tool for that task. A written SOP by hand, or a video, is the better fit. If you are new to procedures, start with [what an SOP is and what makes one usable](https://sopwow.com/guides/what-is-an-sop).

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need industry-specific software for SopWow to work?

No. SopWow records work in any browser-based system. It does not integrate with those systems or need a connector for them; it records what a person does in the tab.

### Is SopWow only for insurance agencies?

No. It started in insurance agency back offices and is deepest there, but it works the same way for any browser-based workflow. The ten industry pages above show what that looks like in each.

### Can we record work that involves regulated data?

Read the data-handling limits first and contact us before recording. SopWow redacts identifying data with a recognizable shape in the browser, but pattern-based redaction can miss things, and SopWow claims no certifications such as HIPAA compliance or SOC 2.

### Does SopWow check procedures against industry rules?

No. SopWow is not a compliance tool. It writes down how your team does the work, and a person on your team reviews and approves every SOP.

## Ready to document your office's first workflow?

Record one browser task your team does every week and see the SOP SopWow writes from it. Your first 3 SOPs are free, with no card required.
