Both tools start the same way: someone does the task while a recorder runs. The difference is what comes out the other end, and how much of the thinking behind the task ends up on the page.
What does each tool actually produce?
Scribe produces how-to guides. You capture a process and Scribe builds a numbered guide with screenshots and step text, which you can edit, brand, and share by link or embed. Paid plans add desktop capture, exports to PDF, HTML, and Markdown, and on-screen walkthroughs. Scribe also markets an AI SOP generator and describes AI that analyzes workflows and suggests improvements.
SopWow produces a standard operating procedure. The worker records a browser task. SopWow's AI then asks about what the recording could not show: why an option was picked, what happens on the other branch, what a wrong choice costs. Those answers go into the procedure. A person reviews it, and nothing is finished until they approve it.
Every approved SopWow SOP comes out as a visual step-by-step guide with phases and screenshots, a Word document, a print-ready PDF, and clean Markdown for knowledge bases and AI copilots.
The short version: Click loggers write down what you did. SopWow writes down what to do. Scribe's own AI features have moved it beyond a plain click log, so judge both tools on your own task, not on a slogan.

When is Scribe the better choice?
Scribe is the better pick in several real situations:
- Your work is not all in a browser. Scribe's paid plans capture desktop apps too. SopWow is browser only: desktop applications, remote desktop and Citrix sessions, and paper steps are not captured.
- You need a quick guide, not a procedure. For "how to reset a password" or "where the export button is", a click-by-click guide is the right size. A decision-aware SOP would be overkill.
- You want many people creating guides for free. Scribe has a free Basic plan. SopWow's free trial covers your first 3 SOPs.
- You need a vendor with security certifications today. Scribe states SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA compliance on its site. SopWow does not claim any certifications.
- You want in-app guidance. Scribe lists on-screen walkthroughs and integrations with tools such as Confluence and Slack. SopWow exports documents; it does not integrate with other systems.
When is SopWow the better choice?
SopWow fits when the hard part of the task is judgment, not clicks.
- The task has branch points. A recording is one path through a branching workflow. SopWow documents when each option is right, with your recorded choice as the worked example. That is what a new hire needs when the case in front of them differs from the one you recorded.
- You want every AI-added claim checked. Anything the AI added that it did not directly observe stays flagged until a person keeps or removes it. Nothing ships itself.
- You would rather pay per finished SOP than per seat. Drafts, rejected drafts, re-recordings, and edits are free. Only an approved SOP counts. The full plan table is on the SopWow pricing page.
- You want a training-grade version. On Team and Business plans, the Refine pass adds per-step reasoning, a glossary for new hires, decision tables, common problems, and a completion checklist.
- You want the SOP in Word and Markdown on every plan. Every plan includes every export format.

Can you use both?
Yes, and some teams will. A common split: Scribe for short "where do I click" guides across all the software a team touches, including desktop apps, and SopWow for the core procedures where a wrong choice costs money, like issuing a certificate or processing an endorsement.
The overlap is real. Both capture browser work and both produce guides with screenshots. If your procedures are mostly linear and you already use Scribe, you may not need a second tool. If your team keeps asking "but which option do I pick?", that is the gap SopWow is built for.
Tango sits close to Scribe in this category. If you are weighing it too, see the SopWow and Tango comparison.
How do the prices compare?
They are priced on different units, so compare them with your own numbers.
Scribe charges per seat. As checked, the free Basic plan covers browser guides; Pro Personal was listed at $25 to $35 per seat per month depending on billing, starting at 1 seat; Pro Team at $13 to $17 per seat per month, starting at 5 seats; Enterprise is custom.
SopWow charges per finished SOP, with no seat count. Starter is $39/month for 15 SOPs, Team is $99/month for 50, and Business is $249/month for 150, with lower per-SOP rates after that. The trial covers your first 3 SOPs with no card.
To compare: count the people who need to create documentation, and the number of procedures you expect to approve each month. Seat pricing favors a small group writing many guides. Per-SOP pricing favors a larger team writing a known set of procedures.

Frequently asked questions
Is SopWow a Scribe alternative?
For browser-based procedures, yes. Both record work as it happens and produce a guide with screenshots. SopWow goes further on decisions and review: it asks about branch points and requires a person to approve every SOP. For desktop apps or quick click guides, Scribe covers ground SopWow does not.
Can I import my Scribe guides into SopWow?
No. SopWow does not import from Scribe or other tools today. To bring a procedure over, record the task once in SopWow and review what it writes. Your Scribe guides stay usable in Scribe.
Does SopWow capture desktop applications like Scribe does?
No. SopWow records in Chrome and Edge only. Desktop applications, remote desktop and Citrix sessions, and paper steps are not captured. You can add steps that happen outside the browser by hand during review.
Does Scribe use AI to write SOPs?
Scribe markets an AI SOP generator and describes AI that turns captured workflows into documentation and suggests improvements. The difference with SopWow is not whether AI is involved. It is whether the AI asks about decisions and whether its additions stay flagged until a human approves them.
