The honest summary: SopWow is a writer. Trainual is a training and operations system that also helps you write. They overlap in the middle, and the overlap is worth understanding before you buy either.
What does each tool actually produce?
SopWow produces finished standard operating procedures. A worker records a task in Chrome or Edge the way they already do it. SopWow's AI writes the procedure, asks about what the recording could not show (why an option was picked, what happens on the other branch), and flags every claim it added until a person keeps or removes it. The approved SOP comes out as a visual guide with screenshots, a Word document, a print-ready PDF, and clean Markdown.
Trainual produces an organized training program. It holds processes, policies, and SOPs in one searchable place, groups them into onboarding and training paths, and assigns them by role. It supports tests, e-signatures, completion tracking, org charts, and role responsibilities. Content can be written by hand, drafted by AI from a description, built from templates, uploaded, or recorded with its built-in screen recorder.
How do SopWow and Trainual compare side by side?
| SopWow | Trainual | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary output | A reviewed SOP with decision points, in four export formats | Training content organized into paths, assigned by role, with tracking |
| How capture works | Records one browser tab while the task is done, then writes the SOP | Write or upload content, draft with AI from a description, or use its built-in screen recorder |
| Asks about decisions and branches | Yes. The AI asks about choices and branches and folds the answers in | Supports flowcharts; an AI question step is not described on the pages we checked |
| Human review gate before publishing | Required. Nothing is saved, shared, or billed as finished until a person approves | AI drafts can be edited before publishing; content owners can get review reminders |
| How AI-added content is handled | Anything not directly observed stays flagged until a human keeps or removes it | Not described on the Trainual pages we checked |
| Pricing model (as checked) | Per finished SOP, not per seat. First 3 SOPs free, then from $39/month | Plans vary by team size and features; buyers are routed to a demo |
| Data handling (as each describes it) | Field values not captured; recognizable identifiers redacted in the browser before text is sent; screenshots never sent to AI models | States SOC 2 Type 2 certification |
| Best for | Getting real procedures written from the work itself | Assigning, tracking, and maintaining training across a growing team |

When is Trainual the better choice?
Trainual is the better fit when writing is not your bottleneck.
- You need to assign and track training. Trainual assigns content by role, tracks completion, and collects e-signatures. SopWow does none of that. It writes and exports procedures.
- You need tests and acknowledgments. Trainual can test what people learned and keep a record that they signed off.
- You want one home for policies, roles, and the org chart. Trainual covers the company handbook side of documentation, not just procedures.
- Your procedures happen outside a browser. SopWow only records browser work. Trainual lets you write content directly or use its screen recorder.
- You mainly need policies, not procedures. A policy is a judgment call written by a manager, not a task someone performs. Trainual's AI drafting from a description fits that better than recording.
- You need a SOC 2 Type 2 vendor today. Trainual states it has that certification. SopWow does not claim any.
When is SopWow the better choice?
SopWow fits when the procedures do not exist yet, or exist only in someone's head.
- You want SOPs drafted from the real work, not from a description. Trainual's AI drafts from what you tell it. SopWow drafts from what the worker actually did, then asks about what it could not see. See how SopWow turns a recording into an SOP for exactly what the recorder captures.
- The task has branch points. SopWow documents when each option is right, with the recorded choice as the worked example.
- You want portable files. Every approved SOP exports as Word, PDF, Markdown, and a visual guide, which you can use anywhere, including inside a training system.
- You do not want to buy seats for everyone. SopWow charges per finished SOP. Drafts, rejected drafts, re-recordings, and edits are free. The plans are on the SopWow pricing page.
Can you use both?
Yes, and for a growing team this is often the sensible setup. SopWow writes the procedure from the work. Trainual organizes it, assigns it to new hires, and tracks who finished it.
In practice: the person who knows the task records it in SopWow and approves the SOP. You export it as a Word document or PDF and upload it to Trainual, which says it accepts existing documents. SopWow does not integrate with Trainual; this is a file handoff.
The overlap is real, and it cuts both ways. If Trainual's AI drafting and screen recorder already get your procedures written, you may not need SopWow. If you do not need assignments, tests, or completion tracking, SopWow's exports in a shared folder or wiki may be enough without Trainual. Frequently asked questions
Is SopWow a Trainual alternative?
Only partly. If all you need from Trainual is written SOPs, SopWow can replace that part, drafted from real work instead of from a description. SopWow does not assign training, track completion, run tests, or hold an org chart. For those, Trainual or a similar system is still the tool.
Can I put SopWow SOPs into Trainual?
Yes, as files. Export the approved SOP as Word, PDF, or Markdown and add it to Trainual the way you add any existing document. There is no direct integration.
Can I import my Trainual content into SopWow?
No. SopWow does not import from Trainual or other tools today. It writes new SOPs from recordings.
Does Trainual use AI to write SOPs?
Yes. Trainual says you can describe a process or policy and its AI will generate a step-by-step draft to edit and publish. The difference is the starting point: Trainual's AI works from your description, and SopWow's works from a recording of the task being done.
