Both tools ride along in the browser while someone does the work. They differ in what they hand back, and in how much of the reasoning behind each step gets written down.
What does each tool actually produce?
Tango produces visual how-to guides. You start a capture, do the process, and Tango builds a step-by-step guide with screenshots, highlights, and descriptions it generates automatically. You can edit it, add callouts, and share it by link, embed, or PDF. Paid plans add desktop capture and exports to Markdown and HTML. Enterprise adds on-screen guidance ("Guide Me" and "Pins"), multi-path workflows, and automations.
SopWow produces a standard operating procedure. After a browser recording, SopWow's AI asks about the things a recording cannot explain: why an option was picked, what happens on the other branch, what a wrong choice costs. The answers go into the procedure. A person reviews every step, and nothing is finished until they approve it.
Each approved SopWow SOP comes out in four formats: a visual step-by-step guide with phases and screenshots, a Word document, a print-ready PDF, and clean Markdown for knowledge bases and AI copilots. If you want the definition of what belongs in a real SOP, see what an SOP is and what it contains.
How do SopWow and Tango compare side by side?
| SopWow | Tango | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary output | A reviewed SOP with decision points, in four formats | A visual step-by-step guide with screenshots and highlights |
| How capture works | Chrome or Edge extension records one browser tab while you work | Browser extension on all plans; desktop capture on Pro |
| Asks about decisions and branches | Yes. The AI asks about choices and branches and folds the answers in | Supports conditional paths in one workflow (multi-path is listed on Enterprise). A question step is not described on the pages we checked |
| Human review gate before publishing | Required. Nothing is saved, shared, or billed as finished until a person approves | Not described on the Tango pages we checked |
| How AI-added content is handled | Anything not directly observed stays flagged until a human keeps or removes it | Lists AI-generated content as an editing feature; flagging is not described on the pages we checked |
| Pricing model (as checked) | Per finished SOP, not per seat. First 3 SOPs free, then from $39/month | Per user. Free plan with 5 shared workflows; Pro per user per month; Enterprise custom |
| Data handling (as each describes it) | Field values not captured; recognizable identifiers redacted in the browser before text is sent; screenshots never sent to AI models | Blurring while capturing; automatic PII detection on Enterprise; states SOC 2 Type 2 compliance |
| Best for | Browser-based back-office procedures where the decisions matter | Visual guides and in-app help for software rollouts and onboarding |

When is Tango the better choice?
Tango is the better pick in these cases:
- You want help inside the software, not just a document. Tango's Enterprise plan puts guidance on top of the apps people use, walking them through each click. SopWow produces documents; it does not overlay other software.
- You are rolling out a new tool. Short visual guides for "how to file an expense in the new system" or "where the export button moved" are exactly what Tango is built for. A decision-aware SOP would be more than those tasks need.
- Some of the work happens on the desktop. Tango's Pro plan captures desktop workflows. SopWow is browser only: desktop applications, remote desktop and Citrix sessions, and paper steps are not captured.
- You want a free plan for a small team. Tango's free plan covers a few shared workflows for a small workspace. SopWow's free trial covers your first 3 SOPs.
- You need a SOC 2 Type 2 vendor today. Tango states it has that. SopWow does not claim any certifications.
When is SopWow the better choice?
SopWow fits when getting the task right depends on a choice, not a click.
- The task branches. A recording is one path through a branching workflow. SopWow documents when each option is the right one, with your recorded choice as the worked example, and it asks you about the branches instead of waiting for you to build them.
- You want AI additions checked, every time. Every claim the AI added that it did not directly observe stays flagged until a person keeps or removes it.
- You want to pay for finished work, not seats. Drafts, rejected drafts, re-recordings, and edits are free. Only approved SOPs count. The plans are on the SopWow pricing page.
- You need a Word document. Every SopWow plan exports Word, PDF, Markdown, and the visual guide.
- You want a training-grade version. On Team and Business plans, the Refine pass adds per-step reasoning, a glossary for new hires, decision tables, common problems, and a completion checklist.
Can you use both?
Yes. The split that makes sense: Tango for in-app guidance and quick visual guides across your software, and SopWow for the procedures where the judgment matters, like a claims intake or a client onboarding with several paths.
Be honest about the overlap before buying both. Each tool captures browser work and produces a guide with screenshots. If your tasks are mostly linear, one tool is probably enough. If your team keeps asking "which option do I pick here?", that question is what SopWow is built to answer.
Many buyers look at Scribe alongside Tango. The SopWow and Scribe comparison covers that tool the same way.
How do the prices compare?
The two tools charge for different things, so run the math with your own numbers.
Tango charges per user. As checked, the free plan includes 5 shared workflows and up to 10 users per workspace. Pro was listed at $15 per user per month billed annually, or $20 monthly, for workspaces of 3 or more users, with a higher per-user rate for 1 or 2 users. Enterprise is custom.
SopWow charges per finished SOP, not per seat. Starter is $39/month for 15 SOPs, Team is $99/month for 50, and Business is $249/month for 150, with lower per-SOP rates after that. The trial covers your first 3 SOPs with no card.
Seat pricing tends to suit a small group documenting often. Per-SOP pricing tends to suit a larger team documenting a known set of procedures. Count both before deciding.

Frequently asked questions
Is SopWow a Tango alternative?
For browser-based procedures, yes. Both capture work as it happens and produce a guide with screenshots. SopWow adds questions about decisions and a required human approval. For in-app guidance, desktop capture, or automation, Tango covers ground SopWow does not.
Can I import my Tango workflows into SopWow?
No. SopWow does not import from Tango or other tools today. To move a procedure over, record the task once in SopWow and review what it writes. Your Tango workflows stay usable in Tango.
Does Tango handle branching workflows?
Tango lists capture of conditional paths in a single workflow, with multi-path workflows on its Enterprise plan. SopWow handles branches differently: the AI asks you about the options you did not take and writes when each one applies, using your recorded choice as the example.
Does SopWow give on-screen guidance inside other apps?
No. SopWow writes and exports procedures as a visual guide, Word, PDF, and Markdown. It does not overlay or integrate with other software.
Ready to see the SOP SopWow writes from your task?
Record one browser task with a real decision in it and read what comes back. Your first 3 SOPs are free, with no card required.
